My name is Alan. I have been making molasses every fall for 20 years.I learned the trade from my grandpa who has passed away.He made molasses for over 50 years.During the depression he sold them for 50 cents per gallon.I get 10 dollars per quart today, however there isnt alot of money to be made because of all the manual labor involved.I just like to keep with tradition and I also like to cook them.My great great grandpa Lock Beatty made molasses during the War Between The States.I hope you enjoy the site.Below are some pictures of us cutting the sorghum. What we are making is actually not molasses, it is sweet sorghum syrup, but if you call it that around here nobody knows what your talking about.Molasses are made from sugar cane and our growing season isnt long enough for that.
Below is a picture of my Great Great Grandpa Francis Lock Beatty. He is standing to the right.

This is my grandpa Walter Paige Beatty.

The four Summers brothers stripping cane with Grandpa.

The heavy rains and wind flattened the patch so cutting is hard.
Although the patch may be down, Luke has a plan...
